Bloomfield Development Corporation advocates for community oriented public processes locally. Below are a few of our past advocacy initiatives.
MoveForwardPgh Community Engagement
Bloomfield Development Corporation is advocating for improvements to the MoveForwardPGH initiative’s community engagement regarding Neighborways and other mobility projects within the city.
Port Authority Bus Stop Consolidation
In early 2020 BDC heard concerns from citizens about Port Authority’s Bus Stop consolidation process. Around 30 neighbors attended to express their concern about how the consolidation would impact their transit experience. We advocated for a better community process around the consolidation of stops with increased transparency around criteria and open engagement with those who would be directly impacted.

Little Italy Days
BDC has advocated for local businesses to have an opportunity to address how Little Italy Days can better support our Bloomfield businesses.
ShurSave
In January of 2018 we held a large community meeting regarding the potential development of the ShurSave site into luxury apartments. The meeting was attended by almost 400 neighbors, viewed by 100s more on Facebook Live, and many more reached out in the aftermath of the meeting to express their opinion on the proposed development.

In early 2019 BDC along with ACTION Housing and Studio for Spatial Practice held a series of community workshops to develop a set of guidelines based on what the community would like to see at the ShurSave site. From those meetings Studio for Spatial Practice

In early 2020 Echo Realty purchased the ShurSave site. A petition was launched to show that there was significant support for making sure that any redevelopment at the site was oriented to the needs and wants of the neighborhood. The petition received over 700 signatures from neighbors in Bloomfield and other nearby neighborhoods.
Since then Echo Realty has brought in Community Market to serve as a grocery store for the neighborhood while plans for redevelopment are being considered.
